This work is mythological and inspired by the ancient Chinese tale of the first man, who was conceived out of stone. Batulang has visible Asian overtones in terms of movement expression, movement quality, dynamic, gestures, music and shapes. The work willingly addresses relationships between people, and draws on themes of initiations or rites of passage. The bonding, the camaraderie, the privacy or secrecy of that group of peoples going through a phase of their life together, sharing, and competition.
