Changing Seasons
As the air gets crisper and darkness descends a little sooner, we pull on our sweaters and reflect on an incredible past season. The spring and summer were a whirlwind of activity for princess productions with Mixed Repetoire showing at DanceWorks in April, Cradlesong at CanStage in May, multiple Swallowing Clouds projects throughout the spring, and dance: made in canada/fait au canada in it’s new festival incarnation in August. Being part of all this activity I have had to take on new responsibilities and roles at princess productions. From organizing workshops, to smoothing skirts in the blackout, to learning the ins and outs of making newsletters, to playing exotic musical instruments, it’s been an entertaining and fulfilling year and most definitely a huge learning experience.
But no time to dwell in the past as there is new art on the horizon and new skills for me to learn! and we are hard at work preparing many new projects for the busy season ahead. Already Yvonne has travelled to Italy to kick off the season, performing work by Tedd Robinson and Stephanie Skura, and teaching Making Dance Maps at the Container 12 Festival. Next month we travel to York Woods Library for Swallowing Clouds and in November return to the studio for more creation with Cradlesong. And because that isn’t quite enough to do Yvonne is starting new work on a solo for herself, entitled Frequency.
It promises to be another fantastic wild ride of a season. Stay tuned!
Best,
Mairéad
